South Florida People of Color and Broward State Attorney’s Office Unveil Online Dashboard for Prosecutor Transparency in South Florida

The South Florida People of Color (SFPoC) and the Broward State Attorney’s Office is set to host a groundbreaking Community Discussion unveiling the Prosecutorial Performance Indicators (PPI) Dashboard and race report. Scheduled for Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Broward County’s African American Research Library and Cultural Center(AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Blvd, Fort Lauderdale FL 33311, this event marks a significant step towards fostering transparency and accountability within South Florida’s criminal justice system. The event is in collaboration with Florida International University, The Prosecutorial Performance Indicators, South Florida People of Color and the African American Research Library and Cultural Center.

“We are thrilled to present this forum to our community,” said Broward County State Attorney Harold F. Pryor. “This event underscores our commitment to transparency and our eagerness to involve the community in shaping the future of justice in South Florida.”

The Community Discussion aims to engage community members from Miami, Broward, and Palm Beach counties in a dialogue surrounding the release of Broward County’s prosecutorial online dashboard. Attendees will gain firsthand knowledge of the initiatives shaping prosecutorial practices, empowering them to advocate for change using data-backed evidence. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to influence and encourage State Attorneys in Miami and Palm Beach to adopt similar transparency measures.

“Data transparency is critical to understanding the dynamics within our criminal justice system. It’s not merely about unveiling information; it’s about making that information more accessible and understandable to impact communities positively. I’m honored to collaborate with South Florida People of Color, the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, and the Broward County State Attorney’s Office in this initiative. Through the Prosecutorial Performance Indicators Dashboard, we aim to empower communities with evidence-backed insights, fostering informed conversations and driving meaningful change in our pursuit of a fairer justice system,” says Co-Manager Melba Pearson.

The event will feature a Fireside Chat-style panel discussion moderated by Dr. Tameka Bradley Hobbs, Library Regional Manager for the AARLCC,  including Broward State Attorney Harold Pryor and Director of Prosecution Projects/Co-Manager of Prosecutorial Performance Indicators Melba Pearson. Networking and refreshments will precede the discussion, fostering an atmosphere conducive to impactful dialogue.
